For the second year in a row, Toronto’s popular beer-and-running club will celebrate Canada’s birthday by running from Toronto to Hamilton. The rally (or solo run, if you’re so inclined) starts at Ontario Place and finishes at Merit Brewing.
All of the proceeds go to Good Foot Delivery, which is a delivery service that employs people who have developmental disabilities. They also make it a point to have a minimal carbon footprint.
The idea for Merithon (get it?) comes from RunTOBeer co-founder Dan Grant making the fleet-footed trek to the Hammer for Merit’s friends-and-family preview in 2017. Tej Sandhu, the running club’s other co-founder is also one of the partner’s at the brewery.
This year’s rally is technically designed for teams of two to six runners, but RunTOBeer says an overwhelming majority of the entrants so far are solo runners who plan to go it alone. The entry fee for one of the 100 spots is $25 (regardless of team size). Naturally, there will be some of Merit’s tasty beer for those who make it across the finish line.
You can find out more on their website or by reaching out to Dan Grant directly at dan@runtobeer.ca.
In other RunTOBeer news, they’re expanding their reach outside of Ontario for the first time.
June 30 will be the first event for CourirÀBière, a Montreal-based offshoot of the club. Its inaugural run will visit 4 Origines and the upcoming events will be overseen by Krysta Veneruz, a RunTOBeer veteran from her days as a student in Toronto.
